Drivers Appreciation Day 3/18/2020

Jefferson Transit Authority will join public transportation providers nationwide to celebrate

Transit Driver Appreciation Day on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020.

What is National Transit Driver Appreciation Day?

Transit Driver Appreciation Day is an annual event to celebrate the public service of public transit vehicle operators. The date of March 18th was selected to commemorate the first bus line, Blaise Pascal’s Carosses à Cinq Sous in Paris, 1662.

For the 2013 observance, Portland’s TriMet established busdriverday.org.

By 2014, TriMet included rail operators by changing the name of Bus Driver Appreciation Day to Transit Driver Appreciation Day. Their site migrated to transitdriverday.org and the Amalgamated Transit Union began publicly observing the day with the new name. This fostered extensive recognition throughout North America.

Why we appreciate our drivers!

Transit operators take special care to get you to your destination safely and on time. Transit operators have to keep a schedule, give directions, announce stops, remember stop requests, all while safely maneuvering a large vehicle through unpredictable traffic, adverse weather conditions and some really tight spaces through our downtown area. It’s not an easy job…but it is easy to show your appreciation for the hard-working men and women who keep us moving.

We hope that you will join us on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020 to thank your transit operator for all that they do for our community.

Below are a few examples:

  • Wave and smile when you board the bus
  • Say thank you when you leave
  • Submit an official commendation below for a job well done, so your operators can be formally recognized for their efforts.
  • Leave a commendation for a driver using the form at the bottom of the page
  • Print out and personalize a Thank-You card here.
